Installation guide

How to install desktop RAM safely

Installation is straightforward when the module is compatible and correctly aligned. Shut the computer down completely, check the motherboard manual, and never force memory into an incorrect position.

Before opening the computer

  • Shut down the PC, unplug power, and discharge residual electricity.
  • Confirm DDR generation, UDIMM form factor, and supported capacity.
  • Use the slots recommended in the manual for one or two modules.
  • After startup, confirm the detected capacity and speed.
01

Prepare the workspace

Work on a clean, stable, carpet-free surface. Shut down through the operating system, disconnect the power supply, and press the power button for a few seconds to discharge residual power.

Reduce static risk by touching a grounded metal surface before handling components. Hold memory only by its edges.

02

Align and seat the module

Open the slot latches according to the motherboard design. Align the notch in the module with the slot key; there is only one correct orientation. If it does not align, do not force it.

Apply even pressure at both ends until the module is fully seated and the latches close. Check the manual because some slots have a moving latch on only one side.

03

Verify after installation

Reconnect the computer and confirm the detected capacity in the BIOS or operating system. Some platforms take longer on the first startup after a change while memory training occurs.

If the system does not start, shut everything down again, review seating, and test combinations recommended by the manufacturer. Do not change voltage or timings without proper guidance.

Installation questions

Which slot should I use first?+

The motherboard manual states the priority. Many boards recommend specific positions for one or two modules, but the rule is not universal.

Can the module be inserted either way?+

No. The contact notch must align with the slot key. Never force a misaligned module.

Why is a lower speed displayed?+

The platform may use a compatible default setting. Check official motherboard, processor, and memory support before changing profiles.

Technical information is educational and may change as standards and products evolve. Always confirm the manuals and official specifications for your exact hardware before purchasing or installing.
